The museum was first opened in October 2008 when Chernivtsi’s 600th anniversary was celebrated. The display is located in the former Jewish National House in Teatralna sq. 5 (now the Central City Culture Palace).

The exhibit covers the period between end XVIII and mid XX centuries. A considerable number of the displayed items are old books, documents, post cards, religious and everyday life items. Substantial attention has been given to the religious life of Bukovynian Jews. The museum makes familiar with the Jewish cultural and political movement of the end XIX – early XX centuries, literature activities in Bukovyna, as well as the everyday life of Jews, their professions, hobbies and spiritual wants.
