MONUMENTS
Chernivtsi
is the center of Bukovyna, which saw a number of monument installations through
the last 600 years of its history. It’s hard to say how many monuments are
present in the whole region now but its center can be proud of at least 20 most
remarkable items.
Sometimes Chernivtsi
residents are somewhat ironical about them as the city has been under seven
empires, each of which installed its own monuments. Often it happened so that the
coming empire removed installations made by its predecessor. That was
especially true for the central square of the city which saw Austrian eagle,
Romanian bull and Soviet leader V.I.Lenin through the XIX-XX centuries.
